Well, we aren’t getting off easy just yet. We’re still being raked over the coals…and perhaps having a little too much fun??? We spent most of October in the San Francisco Bay area fixing our boat and visiting with friends (read: expensive) .
The big ticket items this month that hit the hardest were as follows:
- Moorage. We spent more money than expected on moorage because we discovered that our rudder had split open and needed to stay put at Berkeley Marina for 2 weeks making the repair rather than the 3 days we originally planned for.
- Shopping. Most of the shopping expenses we incurred were related to boat repair (about $400 dollars or so). We also purchased a used iPhone for Jeff (his other one went on the fritz when he dropped it in the Columbia River and it died on the surgery table). Before we left Newport, OR we also purchased some last minute nice to haves (new shoes for Jeff, rain boots for me, polarized sunglasses, etc) from Fred Meyer.
- Entertainment. We had a fantastic time seeing friends and living it up in the city when we weren’t in the boat yard. It’s the first time I’ve been to this area and there is no shortage of places to go, things to do, people to see, things to eat and drink. Sometimes we skimped, sometimes we let ourselves off the hook.
- I can’t make heads or tails of the boat insurance category – I keep thinking I’ve figured it out only to realize that I really haven’t. It’s charged in big chunks and I keep wanting to spread it out over several months, but I obviously didn’t do it right.
Blah. Spending money hurts my soul!
