Jeff and I discovered that both agua de jamaica and agua de
tamarindo make excellent mixers for margaritas (even without ice). This is the drink
of choice aboard Serenity these days because it’s delicious and its cheap (and maybe has health benefits??? At least that’s what I tell myself).
We are currently finishing off a bottle of relatively decent 100% agave tequila
that only cost us $60 pesos (less than $5 US dollars).* That is absurdly cheap.
The agua de jamaica or agua de tamarindo costs anywhere from $1 – $4 for ½ a
gallon. We’re talking < $0.40 per margarita here. We can get tipsy in style
(debatable) for mere dollars!
Plus, if you whipped up these drinks for guests, I’m
guessing they would think you’re pretty classy for using something other than cranberry
juice. Am I wrong?
Jamaica or Tamarindo
Margarita
- 2 oz of tequila (we recently purchased a 1 oz shot glass so
we could measure our alcohol intake) - 2-3 oz of agua de jamaica or agua de tamarindo (depending on the quality of your tequila)
- 1 fresh squeezed lime (one of the mini ones)
- Serve over ice if you’re lucky enough to have ice, otherwise
enjoy lukewarm!
Now if you don’t mind excusing me, I’ve got to mix us some ‘ritas
for a skype date with friends back home.
Agua de Jamaica + Tequila + Lime = Delicious
*Please keep in mind that we both have low standards for the
quality of our alcohol…except when it comes to beer.
