October 2012: cruising budget

November 1, 2012 Harmony

Well, we aren’t getting off easy just yet. We’re still being raked over the coals…and perhaps having a little too much fun??? We spent most of October in the San Francisco Bay area (read: expensive) fixing our boat and visiting with friends.

We’ve got problems, but we have no complaints

October 31, 2012 Jeff

That moment when you find out that the water is as bad as you were afraid it would be. Here we are, still in Berkeley. Once again stuck fixing the […]

Bring. Out. Another. Thousand.

October 26, 2012 Harmony

They (the boat owning community) say that b.o.a.t. is really just an acronym for bring out another thousand. I’m inclined to agree with them. They call boats money pits, big […]

Escaping bureaucracy

Get to know the girl

October 17, 2012 Jeff

I found this photo on Sailing Anarchy, a really neat site if you’re into sailboats and racing. The site says, “Oracle’s AC72 took on a 25-knot (gusting higher) afternoon in […]

A good refrain

October 15, 2012 Jeff

Disclaimer: Nearly all of these photos are Harmony’s, which I’ve stolen with permission. I am a terrible photographer so she took pity. She tends to post more of her photos to a […]

Expectations of passage

October 9, 2012 Jeff

I’m sitting in the warm glow of a lamp, the cat on the rug playing with a feathered dangly toy, and the wife is reading in bed. The cat is […]

Shakedown

October 1, 2012 Harmony

Just wanted to give you an update on where we are and what we’re up to. We made it to Newport on Friday, almost exactly 24 hours after we left […]

Take to the sea

September 27, 2012 Jeff

The boat is in the water, the day is beautiful, and the forecast is good. We’re off to Newport! If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.

Life beyond boat work

September 27, 2012 Harmony

There is a world beyond the boatyard. There is life beyond boat work. We’re treating ourselves to a Ninkasi IPA at the SeaHag (the SHAG for short) right now, which […]

We are Jeff and Harmony, a couple of Pacific Northwestern homebodies (hogareños) who decided to take our home, a 30 foot Nightingale sailboat named Serenity, and our fat lovable cat, on an adventure. We cruised around Mexico, Central America and the Pacific Ocean for about 3 years until the Pacific Northwest beckoned us back home.
