After another attempted propane run (still unsuccessful) and a delicious lunch of fried rice and sweet and sour pork at a local Soda (Costa Rican eatery) that specializes in Chinese food, we returned to the boat with full bellies, sore legs, and partially chilled beer.
We cracked open a couple beers, hauled anchor and set out under motor. Despite a forecast of afternoon thermals, there wasn’t much wind, so we ended up just motoring the whole way to Manuel Antonio. Are we getting lazy you might ask? Yup.
There’s not much to report about this passage other than the fact that the doctor, though now pushing and pulling as he should, was about 130 degrees off of our actual compass heading. He could maintain a course; it’s just that his LCD displayed a different reading from our other compasses onboard. Furthermore, he was over correcting in very light wind and seas.
While we enjoyed our (now lukewarm) beer, we theorized as to the doctor’s current illness as we watched him work and bemoaned his continued overexertion. “No need to overdo it, doc! Just relax, take it easy.” He will be well again someday.
We anchored in about 14 feet of water near Playa Manuel Antonio and I fixed us up a Guaro cocktail (Guaro is the national liquor…derived from straight up sugar cane). Mixed with Tamarindo juice and lime it’s quite delicious…and quite potent.
