State of the plan

A fine, happy mess indeed. A fine, happy mess indeed.

Step 1: Jeff Quits His Job

Intentional unemployment? Who does that? Me, starting June 1st! With any luck, the summer will provide most if not all of the necessary time to get the boat ready and take part in all the weddings and family vacations that will crowd this time in life.

Step 2: Harmony Becomes a Master

The lady finishes her grad school program in June also and will join me in at least part-time bumdom.

Step 3: Prepare Serenity and Ourselves

The list is large, but not overly much, before we can say we’re ready to start shoving off down the coast. Chief among the preparatory items is to figure out where we are actually going beyond “South”. I’m sure we’ll complain about some of the finer points on the trip prep in the near future.

Step 4: Get out of Dodge

September 2nd is the current departure date, which should allow us ample time to get down the coast of California before hurricane season ends in November and we can continue our journey south. Along the way we plan to see friends and take some field trips in the Western US, in addition to slowly weaning off coffee and Internet news.

Step 5: Stop Taking Everything in Steps and Bulleted Lists

Because they are:

  • Depressing
  • Boring
  • Crazy-making
    • for real

We are Jeff and Harmony, a couple of Pacific Northwestern homebodies (hogareños) who decided to take our home, a 30 foot Nightingale sailboat named Serenity, and our fat lovable cat, on an adventure. We cruised around Mexico, Central America and the Pacific Ocean for about 3 years until the Pacific Northwest beckoned us back home.
